Another great time was had by all at the most recent West Asheville Annual Waffle-Off. This is a charity event to raise awareness for The West Asheville Autism Society.
And… of course to crown the greatest waffle making human being on the face of the earth!
This event of unbelievable culinary talent was to host three chefs. Myself, Ferris Camp of the New England Culinary Institute and a surprise mystery chef. The surprise mystery chef turned out to be none other that Shona Miller. An accomplished chef who in less than fifteen days will be leaving the U.S. to attend the School of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy. We found out the night before that Ferris had acquired a severe respiratory infection and was out of the competition.
After the votes were tallied I was able to edge out Shona by only two votes. I narrowly escaped the wrath of Shona’s colorful Beet Waffles with Vegan Chocolate Sauce and her Sous chef’s Laura’s Herbed Waffles with Panchetta with an original S.D.C. creation. The winning recipe of Brown Butter and Sage Waffles with Roasted Butternut Squash Mousse and Toasted Almond Glass took the cake. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it!
